The labor market in Berlin

Stable situation in the Berlin labor market

The Berlin labor market showed itself to be relatively stable in 2025, albeit slightly weakened. With 2.2 million people in employment, Berlin recorded a decrease of 0.2 percent compared to the previous year. This marked the first decline in the figure since 2020. The number of employees subject to social insurance contributions stood at around 1.7 million in 2025, roughly the same as the previous year.

The international metropolis of Berlin continues to attract more and more international talent: in 2025, approximately 976,000 foreign nationals were living in the capital. They make up 25 percent of the population.
