With its central location in Europe, the city offers companies in the tourism industry outstanding potential for development.
Berlin is one of the top city destinations in the world: More than 12 million visitors from all over the world visited the German capital in 2025. They booked over 29 million overnight stays in more than 700 accommodation establishments. This clearly shows: Travel continues to Berlin! The proportion of international overnight stays was 41 percent.

In 2025, Berlin welcomed 4.5 million visitors from abroad. This was 0.2 percent less than in the previous year. Most of the foreign visitors came from the US, the UK, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy. At 7.9 million, the number of domestic visitors was 1.4 percent below the previous year's level.
Berlin as a sustainable travel destination
Berlin ranks fourth among the world's most sustainable cities in the Global Destination Sustainability Index 2025, the leading international sustainability ranking for the tourism and events industry. This means that the German capital has moved up one place compared to last year. The "Metropolis" category comprises 15 major international cities with more than 1.5 million inhabitants and evaluates ecological, social, and economic criteria. The result underscores Berlin's commitment to being one of Europe's most climate-friendly and livable destinations.
