The 200 largest employers, "Berlin's top 200," which are determined in an annual survey by the Berliner Morgenpost, increased their workforce in 2016 by 2,9%. This confirms that the positive trend of recent years continues. Up to 3,302 new jobs will be created this year.
With more than 83,000 employees, the health sector provides most of the jobs in the Top 200. However, Berlin's largest employer comes from the transport sector: with its 20,780 employees, Deutsche Bahn is still in first place followed by Charité (17,083 employees), the Vivantes Network for Health (15,467 employees) and BVG (14,417 employees). Siemens is now in 5th place with 11,600 employees.
Developments in the financial sector are inconsistent: while banks are cutting jobs, the digital financial market is on the up. Investitionsbank Berlin estimates that around 2,000 jobs will be created by Fintech companies this year.
