The 200 largest employers, "Berlin's top 200," which are determined in an annual survey by the Berliner Morgenpost, increased their workforce in 2015 by nearly 2%. This confirms that the positive trend of recent years continues. Up to 4,477 new jobs will be created this year.
With more than 76,000 employees, the health sector provides most of the jobs in the Top 200. However, Berlin's largest employer comes from the transport sector: with its 17,410 employees, Deutsche Bahn is still in first place followed by Charité (16,853 employees), the Vivantes clinics (14,909 employees) and BVG (14,045 employees). Siemens is now in 5th place with 11,100 employees.
Companies in the digital economy are experiencing significant employment growth. In 2015, the number of people employed by large start-ups such as Zalando, Delivery Hero and Home24 increased by approximately 21.3%. In the past three years, online retailer Zalando has managed to jump from 90th to 15th place.
