The 200 largest employers, "Berlin's top 200," which are determined in an annual survey by the Berliner Morgenpost, increased their workforce in 2014 by 1.5%. This confirms that the positive trend of recent years continues.
Companies in the healthcare industry as well as in transport, mobility and logistics play a central role. The strongest industry in the top 200 is the healthcare sector with 82,098 employees.
Berlin's largest employer is the Deutsche Bahn with 21,260 employees, followed by the Charité (16,857 employees), the Vivantes clinics (14,714 employees) and the BVG (13,300 employees). Siemens is now in 5th place with 12,000 employees.
The German Red Cross is new in the top 10 with 7,533 employees. The online retailer Zalando has managed to place in the top 20 thanks to a 56.7% leap in its number of employees. The top climbers can be found further down in the ranking: Primark added 70 jobs last summer and is now ranked 91st.
