The rents for residential property in the German capital are low compared to other major cities, even in the most popular, trendy neighborhoods.

The Berlin rental market is relaxed. Compared to other major cities, even those in West Germany, rental prices range from an affordable mid-range and lower.

According to a market report published by the real estate portal Immowelt.de, rents for apartments in Berlin, at an average of 6.56 Euros per square meter, are just slightly higher than the German average of 6.31 Euros per square meter. Even in popular boroughs like Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, rents average a mere 7 Euros per square meter, or 8 Euros per square meter in Prenzlauer Berg. Rents in Mitte are somewhat more expensive at 13 Euros per square meter. Hellersdorf has the lowest rents, at an average of 4.28 Euros per square meter.

Finding the right apartment

Though hiring a property agent can make the apartment search easier, using the classified listings of the major daily papers and the usual real estate portals on the web is also a convenient way to find a suitable property. The selection of available rental properties includes dwellings of all price levels and at all locations.
