With 79 clinics, 18,000 physicians and 892 pharmacies, Berlin boasts of an excellent health care infrastructure.

A dense network of hospitals, clinics, physicians’ practices, emergency medical services and institutions as well as specialized institutions provides a broad spectrum of health care services for all residents.

Berlin is home to world-class research in medical technology, clinical practice and medical technology manufacturing. It is not least the patients of Berlin’s health care facilities who benefit. They enjoy access to state of the art treatment, which saves lives and relieves suffering every day.

Promoting public health care is a top priority in Berlin. The Healthy City Initiative (Gesundheitsstadt Berlin e.V.), launched by the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Industrie- und Handelskammer Berlin - IHK) and the Berlin Senate supports preventive medicine and health promotion in order to meet growing public health needs.

Preventive medicine and health promotion are the responsibility of agencies at the federal and local level.
