OpTecBB is an initiative launched by companies and scientific institutions in Berlin and Brandenburg that intend to collaborate on new methods for exploiting optical technologies.
Modern optical technologies have applications across multiple industries, making them one of the key technologies for the 21st century, in particular as enabling technologies.
Numerous firms with expertise in this field have settled in Berlin and Brandenburg, where there is a significant research and development potential. OpTecBB is boosting Berlin-Brandenburg's innovative potential and the region's focus on technology while reinforcing the strength of the regional economy by promoting cooperation, coordination and alignment of these companies' activities.


Center for Microsystems Technology (Zentrum für Mikrosystemtechnik - ZEMI)

ZEMI is an alliance of Berlin research institutions that channels the region's research and development potential in the field of microsystems technology and serves as a point of contact for cooperation between businesses.
ZEMI pursues the following objectives:
  • Make its intellectual and technical resources available to users;
  • Support businesses in developing and manufacturing their products;
  • Reduce time-to-market for the companies partnering in the industry;
  • Reduce the cost of innovation;
  • Provide comprehensive, expert project management.

NanOp

NanOp is the national network for companies that work with nanostructures, nano-analytical technologies and optoelectronics. Its members include small and large companies as well as various research institutions.


Rathenow Competence Center for Optical Technology (Kompetenzzentrum Optik-Rathenow)

Rathenow businesses and regional corporations founded the interest group "Rathenow Competence Center for Optical Technology" in 1998 with support from the Land government of Brandenburg. Their goal was to rebuild Rathenow, which has a long history as a center of precision engineering and optics, into an internationally recognized "City of Optics" once again. Small and mid-sized businesses in particular benefit from their participation in this network.


German Engineering Federation (Verband deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V. - VDMA)

VDMA is one of the key industry associations and service providers in Europe. Its 3,000 member companies form the largest network of capital goods producers in Europe. Its overall mission is built around four core principles: "Networked thinking, networked actions", "Creating the corporate tomorrow", "Technology for you and me", and "Europe and the World". The organization providing optimal support to VDMA members includes associations for specific engineering disciplines, regional associations, central departments dealing with engineering and machine building topics as well as subsidiary service companies.


The German Electrical and Electronics Industry Association (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V. - ZVEI)

ZVEI represents the interests of the German electrical and electronics industry with regard to economic, technology and environmental policy at the national, European and international levels. It provides targeted information about the economic, technical and legal conditions under which the electrical and electronics industries operate in Germany. The network includes about 1,400 member companies.
