The subsidy eligibility areas in Berlin were approved for the period 2007 to 2013 by the European Commission as part of the German Regional Subsidy Eligibility Area Map in accordance with the state aid rules of the EC Treaty. In each subsidy eligibility area in Berlin, investment incentives using funds from the Joint Agreement for the Improvement of Regional Economic structures and other public funds may be granted up to the following maximum gross subsidy rates:

1) Maximum gross subsidy rates valid beginning October 1st, 2008 (Bulletin issued by the Coordination Committee of the Joint Agreement for the Improvement of Regional Economic structures dated September 10th, 2008, published in the German Federal Gazette (Bundesanzeiger) number 145 on September 24th, 2008, page 3452)

2) Small companies are those
  • With fewer than 50 employees, and
  • An annual turnover or annual balance sheet total of not more than 10 million euros.

3) Mid-sized companies are those with
  • Fewer than 250 employees, and
  • An annual turnover of not more than 50 million euros or an annual balance sheet total of not more than 43 million euros.

4) Subsidy rate of the investment allowance granted in Berlin for the period 2007 through 2013.

The following subsidy rates apply pursuant to the Investment Subsidy Act (Investitionszulagengesetz) of 2007 or, respectively, 2010 in the Subsidy Eligibility Areas C and D in Berlin (large companies in Subsidy Eligibility Area D are not eligible for the investment allowance):
