smartMap Berlin app: enhanced features and an Android version for the 3D map of Berlin

“SmartMap Berlin,” the app which depicts a 3D model of the German capital, continues to expand. “We have moved on to the next dimension after last year’s successful launch of the version for iPhones and iPads. We have enhanced the app with additional economic and scientific information from our Business Location Center and have integrated supplementary maps and infrastructure data. Furthermore the app is now also available in an Android version,” explained Melanie Bähr, Managing Director at Berlin Partner GmbH.  more

3D model of Berlin as the “smartMap Berlin” app

If you own a smartphone or a tablet, you can now put Berlin into your pocket – at least virtually, that is. The 3D model of Berlin, the German capital, is now available as the free “smart-Map Berlin” app for iPhones and iPads. Adaptations for the “smartMap” in 2013 will include more functions and plans are also under way for Android and Windows versions. The app has been developed by “3D Content Logistics,” a start-up from the Berlin region, in close cooperation with the Business Location Center from Berlin Partner GmbH, the city’s economic development corporation. more

The "rds Rooftop Campaign" joins forces with the Berlin Business Location Center

About 220,000 rooftops in Berlin are suitable for the operation of photovoltaic systems. This is evident from the data provided by the “Berlin Solar Atlas” an urban mapping project realized under the auspices of Berlin Partner GmbH. As it stands, only 9,000 rooftops in the German capital are currently equipped with a solar installation. Yet if all the suitable rooftops were used to generate solar power, this could bring about a marked reduction in Berlin’s volume of CO2 emissions. In order to boost the number of solar systems on the city’s rooftops, the Berlin Solar Atlas project has decided to team up with a locally based company, rds energies GmbH.  more

The Berlin Wall – A Virtual 3D Tour

Where was the wall, exactly? How wide was the no-man's land known as the "Death Strip?"  Where were the watchtowers? And where was Friedrichstrasse located – in the East or the West of the city? These are questions posed by tourists as well as young Berliners. Fifty years after the Wall was built, and 22 years after its fall, only a few remnants have been preserved to remind visitors and residents of the edifice where so many died, and which made Berlin a symbol of the Cold War. The three-dimensional city model in Berlin Partner GmbH's Business Location Center shows the exact course of the wall through the city, the East-facing "Hinterland" wall and the border strip with its watchtowers and crossing points. more

Berlin presents Solar Atlas: 500,000 ROOFS FULL OF ENERGY

How much solar energy can my house harness? By how much could I cut my CO2 output and energy expenditure? And how much would it cost to install a solar array on my roof? These questions can now be answered by the Berlin Solar Atlas, which was presented to a wider audience for the first time today by Ingeborg Junge-Reyer, Berlin’s Senator for Urban Development, at the EXPO REAL, a real estate trade fair held in Munich.  more

890 km² of Virtual Berlin: Google Earth now Shows the Entire City

Two years ago, Berlin was the first city in Germany to make available a photorealistic, three dimensional model on the internet via Google Earth. Gradually, the model was linked to databases reflecting the city as a business metropolis. As a result, the locations of the music industry can now be viewed, for example. Or, because of the real estate database kept by the Business Location Center having been integrated, Google Earth users will now find exposés for those commercial properties that are available for sale or rent in the city.  more
